What brought you to Utah?

• A National Search for the new assistant professor of flute at Utah State University

What else keeps you busy?

• Other than my full-time position at USU and keeping up with my fabulous students, I am

a very active performer and researcher, giving concerts nationally and internationally as

well as serving as a guest artist at so many other national institutions

How do you find fulfillment in your musical life?

• I don’t have a lot of time to practice in between my fast-paced solo career and busy

teaching obligations, but my soul is soothed everyday when I walk into my office, pick up

my flute which I always leave out, and just play a few notes. It’s the best way for me to

start my day and gives me the substance I need on those crazy days

What do you do to maintain a work/life balance? What else are you

passionate about?

• In my very rare spare time, I love to read physical books, bake, and arrange flowers

What would you say to encourage a young flutist?

• Always remember why you picked up your instrument in the first play and why you love

playing the flute. It will not always be easy and this gentle reminder will keep you in

check!

Do you have any exciting projects coming up?

• I am recording a CD of Persian solo and chamber works for flute with my colleague and

dear friend, Dr. Kelariz Keshavarz. We are going on tour through North and South

Carolina with our friend Dr. Gozde Cakir to perform chamber music of Azerbaijani,

Turkish, and Persian composers

Who is your favorite composer?

• Tchaikovsky-I consider him my religion.
