2025 UFA Sonata Competition Repertoire

This season, we will be adding a sight-reading component to the Sonata Competition. It is an optional event that comes with each level, and the sight-reading winner of each level will receive an additional certificate. There will not be an additional cash prize for this component, but it will be a great opportunity to sight-read under pressure and receive feedback. To opt in, simply select “Yes” under the sighting-reading question when you register. Good luck!

  • Flutists who have completed at least one music degree (major or minor) at a Utah college/university

1st Round: Performers will register and submit an unedited audio (only) recording of the required piece by January 18, 2025. Three finalists will be selected and notified by early February 2025.

2nd Round: The three finalists will compete during the UFA Convention on March 8, 2025, performing both indicated pieces. The winner will be announced after the final concert at the Convention, along with all other Sonata Competition winners.  The winner will perform at our Sonata Competition Winner’s Recital at 1pm on March 22, 2025. Location for the Winner’s Recital to be announced.

* In an effort to highlight the many great professional flutists of Utah, prior winners of the Artist Performer Competition must wait 5 years to compete again. This rule ONLY applies to the Artist Performer Category and no other category of the Sonata Competition. *
